$600 and Above Claim Process
Prizes of $1,000 or less offer the convenience of same-day payment at District Offices between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. While not guaranteed, individuals with error-free claims can potentially receive their checks on the spot after ticket validation and Claim Form approval. However, certain claims, such as 2nd Chance prizes, promotional awards, and those won on advance plays, may necessitate additional processing at Lottery Headquarters.
For prizes exceeding $600, claimants must follow a simple four-step process. First, they need to acquire the appropriate Claim Form (CSL1242) and watch a short video to ensure accurate completion. Group winners must follow specific guidelines based on their prize amount, with single players completing IRS Form 5754 for amounts between $600 and $999,999, and a group representative handling claims of $1 million or more, along with separate forms for remaining members.
If the prize is an annuity, claimants must complete a Payment Election form, witnessed by a Lottery representative or notary, with different forms required for Scratchers, SuperLotto Plus, Mega Millions, and Powerball. Once the necessary forms are completed, claimants can submit their claims through various options for prizes $600 and above. Claiming in person at a local California Lottery District Office is an option, with implemented procedures for health and safety.
