Probation Resource Fair
In a bid to assist clients transitioning back into the community, the County’s Probation Department recently hosted its inaugural interactive resource fair, tailored specifically for individuals in East County. Spearheaded by Supervising Probation Officer Ana Diaz, this event aimed to bridge the gap between justice-involved individuals and the plethora of resources available to support their reentry process.
Empowering Connections
Over 60 organizations, including potential employers, converged at the resource fair, offering an array of services ranging from housing and employment assistance to medical and mental health support. Held outside the East County Court House in El Cajon, the event provided a one-stop destination for clients seeking essential resources to rebuild their lives.
Beyond Basic Services
The event went above and beyond by offering more than just conventional resources. Attendees had the opportunity to receive free haircuts and shaves courtesy of Empire Barber & Shave Co., ensuring they felt confident and prepared for upcoming job interviews. Additionally, the Live Well Mobile Office was on-site to deliver crucial health services, further addressing the holistic needs of the clients.
Innovative Engagement
One of the highlights of the Resource Fair was the inventive approach taken by Probation officers to engage clients. Through a scavenger hunt-style activity, attendees navigated through various booths, connecting with service providers and gathering information. Upon completion, participants were rewarded with gift cards to local restaurants, fostering a sense of accomplishment and incentivizing active participation.

Jason Rodriguez, a justice-involved client, shared his journey of overcoming adversity and emphasized the importance of seeking help when needed. His inspiring words echoed the sentiment of the event, reinforcing the message that support is available for those willing to seek it.

Alcohol and Drug Program Specialist Claudia Fallow articulated the overarching goal of the Probation Department in hosting such events: to change perceptions and demonstrate that Probation is not solely punitive but also committed to facilitating rehabilitation and offering opportunities for positive change.
