Longtime NASSCO Employee Dies in Tragic San Diego Waterfront Accident

By Kevin Murphy – ItsSoSanDiego

On Monday afternoon, a tragic industrial accident claimed the life of a longtime employee at the General Dynamics National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO) facility located along San Diego’s waterfront. The incident has left the local community and NASSCO team grieving the loss of a respected and valuable colleague.

Incident Details

The accident occurred around 12:15 p.m. on Monday at the NASSCO facility, situated in the 2700 block of Harbor Drive. Initial reports indicated that the incident was a fall; however, it was later clarified by the victim’s daughter that the cause of death was a result of an object falling and striking the worker. The worker, identified as JC Adame, was a pipefitter working at ground level at the time of the accident, not in an elevated position.

Emergency responders from the San Diego Fire Rescue were quickly dispatched to the scene, but unfortunately, Adame was pronounced dead at the site. The exact nature of the object that fell and caused the fatal injuries has not been disclosed.

NASSCO’s Response

In a statement released shortly after the incident, NASSCO expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their employee. “With great sadness, we can confirm a fellow NASSCO employee has passed away in the shipyard earlier today,” the statement read. “Out of respect for the family, and as we investigate the incident, we cannot share any further details at this time. There are no words that can suffice in this moment. Our deepest sympathies go out to the family — and the entire NASSCO team is keeping them in our thoughts during this tragedy.”

Later that day, NASSCO officials publicly identified the victim as JC Adame, a dedicated pipefitter who had worked in the Repair Department for many decades. Dave Carver, President of General Dynamics NASSCO, expressed his heartfelt condolences in a news release, stating, “No amount of condolences can fully express our heartfelt sorrow to JC’s family, friends, and all who knew him. As a pipefitter in the Repair Department, JC was a valuable member of our team for many decades – he will truly be missed.”

Investigation Underway

The Harbor Police are currently leading an investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding Adame’s death. As the investigation is ongoing, NASSCO has refrained from providing additional details out of respect for Adame’s family and to ensure a thorough examination of the incident.

This tragic event serves as a somber reminder of the risks faced by those working in industrial environments. The entire San Diego community mourns the loss of JC Adame, a man who dedicated much of his life to his work at NASSCO. His passing leaves a void not only within the company but also in the lives of those who knew and loved him.

As the investigation continues, the thoughts and prayers of the community remain with Adame’s family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.
